What does it mean to be invited back to the UK Caribbean Food Awards?

For us at Twerk’N’Jerk, being invited back to cater the UK Caribbean Food Awards for the third year running is not something we take lightly.

It is not just another event in the calendar.

It feels like recognition. It feels like trust. It feels like becoming part of something bigger than ourselves.

For the past two years, our founder, Tyron has had the honour of serving food at an event that celebrates Caribbean excellence across the UK. To now be considered a resident caterer is a moment that carries real weight.

Because this is not just about food. It is about what that food represents.

Why is this moment so personal to our founder Tyron?

Twerk’N’Jerk was never just built as a food business. It was built from identity, experience, and a deep connection to culture.

Tyron, our founder, comes from mixed heritage with Jamaican roots, and that connection to Caribbean culture has always been there, but not always in a simple or straightforward way.

Like many people growing up between identities, culture can sometimes feel distant, fragmented, or something you have to rediscover for yourself.

Food became that connection.

It became the way to understand it.To hold onto it.To express it.

That is why every dish we serve means something.

What does Caribbean food really represent?

Caribbean food is often described as bold, flavourful, and vibrant. And it is.

But it is also so much more than that.

Every dish tells a story.

• A story of migration • A story of resilience • A story of creativity • A story of survival

Caribbean cuisine is the result of generations blending influences from Africa, Europe, and the indigenous Caribbean. It has evolved through history into something completely its own.

That is what we carry into every event, every plate, every service.

So when we are cooking at something like the UK Caribbean Food Awards, we are not just serving meals.

We are preserving something.

Something that feels important. Something that feels sacred.

Why does representation in spaces like this matter?

Representation is something that sits at the core of everything we do.

Because we understand what it feels like to not always see yourself reflected fully.

To question where you fit.To feel like parts of your identity are missing or misunderstood.

Spaces like the UK Caribbean Food Awards change that.

They bring everything into focus.

They remind us that:

• Our stories matter • Our culture matters • Our food matters

Being in that room, surrounded by people who are contributing to Caribbean culture in the UK, is powerful.

And to be serving food in that space means we are not just present.

We are contributing.

How does this go beyond catering an event?

When we show up to cater the awards, we are not just thinking about service times or menu execution.

We are thinking about the bigger picture.

We are thinking about:

• How our food represents Caribbean culture • How it reflects the journey behind Twerk’N’Jerk • How it contributes to a wider narrative

Because Caribbean people in the UK are not just present.

They are shaping industries. They are building businesses. They are influencing culture.

And events like this create space for that to be recognised properly.

What responsibility comes with representing Caribbean culture through food?

With recognition comes responsibility.

That is something we are always aware of.

There is a responsibility to:

• Honour tradition • Respect the roots of the dishes we create • Stay true to the culture behind the food

But there is also a responsibility to evolve it.

To keep it relevant. To reinterpret it in a way that speaks to today’s generation.

Because culture does not survive by accident.

It survives because people choose to carry it forward.

That is what we aim to do every single day at Twerk’N’Jerk.

How does this reflect our journey as a brand?

From day one, this journey has been about more than business.

It has been about building something that represents:

• Culture • Community • Creativity

From starting out with a single grill to now catering major cultural events, everything has been built on consistency, purpose, and belief in what we are creating.

Moments like this remind us that the work matters.

That showing up matters. That staying consistent matters.

And that doing things with intention creates opportunities, not just for us, but for others coming after us.

What does this mean for the future of Twerk’N’Jerk?

Being invited back again is not just a milestone.

It is motivation.

It pushes us to:

• Keep raising our standards • Keep representing Caribbean culture properly • Keep building something with long-term impact

Because this is not just about where we are now.

It is about where we are going.

And more importantly, what we leave behind.

Support Caribbean Culture - Support Twerk’N’Jerk
